What mood inspires you to write?

It seems I write best when I'm angry or debating a point, so I've observed, or when I'm asked for advice on a very specific question. There's no hesitation - the words just flow; my words are concise, sharp, and sometimes deadly - like an automatic weapon. Still, at other times, when no challenge is presented in front of me, I yearn for the right words to express myself fluidly, oftentimes feeling defenseless against the blank sheet of terrorizing paper in front of me.

It makes me wonder: are certain moods more affable to writing better? What mood, situation, or atmosphere stimulates your writing flow? Please share!

It's official, we're

It's official, we're connected. Or there is a thread of concisciousness we share.

In addition to almost exactly the same scenarios you just outlined, I also find moments of despair bring out a lot of my creativity. And not all of my writing comes out dark for me in those moments, as one might expect.

This thought you shared, although not organized and described so elioquently in my mind, came to me yesterday as I dished out a bit of advice to someone on Tumblr.

The conversation inspired a post I wrote about how I miss school -- the challenge, the ideas, the exploration. I think that's what's missing here Skillz, the questions. The questions asked of students at school require deep thought and push you out of your comfort zone. Th exercises seem mundane and uninteresting while in school, but the wisdom of your professors reveals itself later in life, when making flow charts is easy because you've been doing them for years.

But afterward, the world is so much more narrow than I expected. Everything is specialized and confined. People like me that can appreciate anything can lose focus on what matters most to them, and then purpose becomes fuzzy.

This situation causes us to search out the questions, the easy ones at least. The built-in arena for ideas that is school turned out to be one of the only places that still actually cares about ideas.

UCF's grad fair is today... I'm planning on going and asking lots of questions. Hopefully I can find just one degree program that is asking the kinds of questions I want to answer, because I need some of that in my life.

Thanks Skillz...

Accomplishment makes me want

Accomplishment makes me want to write.  Sharing what I learned and the hurdles I encountered to make others journey's easier and frought with less peril.

Skills - I'm with you on the emotional aspect.  However, in today's world I keep my true emotional responses offline.  Words follow you online and its unfortunate, but something I'm always aware of.

Spiegro - I really liked your post on school and the post-graduate life.  It took me back a few years :)
