Accomplish More By Falling in Love (with Yourself)

I can remember a moment with my old high school band director when I was in college. I remember talking to the man who would consistently communicate messages to me that served to change my life.

I told him, "I'm in 14 organizations at school," referring to my leadership and community involvement. I thought he would be proud.

He replied, "When you know yourself better, that number will decrease."

Believe in you...

I recently heard a professor state, "If you believe that you're ugly, you'll act like you're ugly, and therefore you will become ugly..." Replace "ugly" with "uneducated", "educated," "beautiful," "capable," "confident," "blessed"...Interesting isn't it...Believe in you...Believe in us as a people, whether young and old, Black or White, rich or poor...Many blessings.

"Invictus" You are the master of your fate...

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

"Don't Quit"

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,

Open the door to community

"It is possible to be standing on one side of a door and perceive the world as a dark and lonely place, while on the other side of that very same door are countless people just waiting to lend support and cheer you on. All that is required is that you turn the knob."
