Shut Up About Casey Anthony Already, You Sad, Pathetic People

Perhaps you've heard, but Casey Anthony, mother of two-year-old Caylee Anthony who disappeared only to be found dead in a retention pond in 2008 under very suspicious circumstances, is on trial.

What's that? You haven't heard? There's no way that's possible unless you've disowned the Internet, shunned cable television, or have not been around a nationally-distributed news publication since 2007.

Really, it's what everyone is talking about in the Twitterverse and on Facebook. And if you have the pleasure of living in or around The City Beautiful -- Orlando, FL that is -- like I do, then this case has likely captivated you from day one.

What's not to pay attention to? There's the defense attorney who is obviously in way over his head, yet keeps throwing the curve balls at the prosecutors (and making every mistake possible in the process). Then there is Casey, the mother and suspect murderer, who went to a rival school of mine, who is a good-looking party animal who apparently wasn't ready to be a mother and used some, shall we say questionable techniques to get her daughter to sleep. Oh! And then there are Casey's parents, who seemed to fit the part of the loving, caring, and tragic-stricken grandparents while the case developed, only to be accused of abusive parenting themselves, by the daughter they defended no less!

This article in The Daily

This article in The Daily Beast made me want to re-post my commentary I wrote two weeks ago here in Skillology. It's definitely not my best writing, but I felt I had to step in and say what I felt about this case. Because I live in Orlando, this case has been a around-the-clock ordeal, and despite my best attempts to ignore it I still found myself stuck in a conversation about the case. I'm not going to cast judgement on anyone, but the fact remains that there was nothing special about this case, just the media needed something to fill a slow summer for news. Man, for as long as I can

Man, for as long as I can remember the main headline on Orlando Sentinel always had something to do with Casey Anthony. And that was before the trial. I was worn out by the coverage back in 2008, thinking, "these journalist must have something else to cover, no?" Since then, I hear the Sentinel has received goo-gobs of traffic, along with other media outlets covering the case. I do agree that the case is way overblown by the media, and whether they admit it or not, their main stake in the story is to boost ratings. But they gotta eat too, I suppose. Sadly though, it's the masses eating it up like the last supper. I don't recall anything newsworthy receiving this much coverage, except the OJ case. Everyone's got an opinion. At least hyper-sensationalized cases like this school the public on the legal process, I guess. Gotta admit though, I chuckle a little to see ol Casey referenced on this site, but it's a good article Spiegro. Thanks for sharing. Keep writing! Ya challenging us to step it up here.

Its definitely good for SEO,

Its definitely good for SEO, there are way too many people following that story. On the day of the trial alone OrlandoSentinel.com had more than 20 millions page views when usually its around 2 millions. ;)
