The Power of Perspective: Be Positive

I have a secret. And, it’s time I let it all out. The patient, kind, inspirational, spiritual woman people see has been and continues to be a work in progress.  My life’s work and reputation is all a result of my determination to keep things in perspective.

It all comes down to priming.

Priming, in this instance, refers to the ability for positive thinking to influence outcomes. I learned this phrase after recently attending a life and career coaching institute, called the Velocity WhoProof Institute, where a group of attendees and I further examined our personal and professional aspirations in the past, present, and future under the direction of three certified life coaches.  I discovered that priming is what I’ve been doing my whole life.

Growing up, I had been shy, self-conscious, nervous, fearful, and hesitant about dancing to the beat of my own drum.  Somewhere along the line, I determined that if I could convince myself everything would work out, I could assume the power of the Incredible Hulk.  It was all a matter of believing.

This relates directly to professional growth and success as much as it relates to personal growth and success because priming is necessary in both instances.  If a salesman is having a horrible day and feels he will go into a meeting and lose the deal as a result, not only will he go in a meeting in a negative mood, but research shows that he will also most likely lose the deal. According to research, if the internal or external conversation prior to such an instance is one of hope and optimism, the outcome will be a better one. The same reality exists for one who is determined to start a business, or pursue a dream, or put together a cohesive team with positive relationships. If you believe it, it will come.

I eventually decided I would be outgoing instead of shy and was determined that it would work out. I decided I would be bold and uncaring about how the world perceived me when it would infringe upon my ability to feel like I was myself and that has made me a much happier person. I still get nervous and sometimes fearful, but with priming, I’m a lot better at not allowing it to deter me from pursuing challenging goals that will take me to the next level personally and professionally. I now willingly, excitingly and joyfully dance to the beat of my own drums. I live life like it’s golden, but only because I believe in the power of doing so.  For me, my priming is also connected to my spirituality--a belief that with God, I’m continuing to move forward in greatness, but even that realization has been a work in progress.

I implore you to examine your own reality and what is stopping you from pursuing your dreams and being the very best and most powerful person you can be.  Is it your perspective? Do you actually believe your dreams or personal growth will happen?  When you decide you deserve to be the best, deserve to have the best and deserve to live life to the fullest, the likelihood of it actually happening will increase. It’s all about perspective. I believe in you. Do you?
