The Journey Beyond "Right Now"

Despite your thoughts about the hustle and bustle of everything that is happening in your life in the “right now,” beyond this moment awaits the huge possibilities of your unrealized dreams.

It’s true.

I know this because there is proof in so many individuals who have come before you and decided to journey beyond “right now.”

A little more than three years ago, my colleague, Christina Sturdivant, as a 23-year-old, without much experience in the business world, decided to dream.  Not only did she dream, but she took action.  She started an organization, D.R.E.A.M. Life, that would serve young mothers, providing them with counseling, health, employment, education and child care services.

While she had bills, life challenges and a plethora of questions about how this whole thing would work out, she made it happen.

Three years later, young women all over the DC metropolitan area have found a new light in Christina and the mentorship and resources she has provided them with.  While gaining new insight as to how to run her organization in a way that would provide the most benefit to the community she serves, she has changed the lives of young mothers, their children, their parents and others around them.  She has poured into the lives of her program participants in a way that has allowed participants to go to college, gain employment, increase self-esteem and obtain resources for their children--all of this from journeying beyond “right now.”

Great strides in history have been made by those who have chosen to journey beyond “right now” despite everything and everyone who warned against them taking the route of uncertainty.

From the civil rights movement to revolutions all over the world, people have had a dream and sought to fulfill it, despite the naysayers.

Follow their footsteps.

Why live in the “right now” if it’s not fulfilling your vision of where you could be, especially if it could make a difference in the lives of others?

As we celebrate the three year anniversary of D.R.E.A.M. Life, let us also celebrate all those in history who have journeyed beyond the “right now.”  Let us make the decision to follow in the footsteps of those who have reaped the rewards of their fearlessness.

It’s time for us all to journey beyond “right now.”
