Get Over Yourself!

I am a strong advocate of my friends.  Their hopes, dreams and aspirations are as dear to me as my own.  Even as I am working to reach a certain plateau in my professional life, I try to do everything within my power to provide resources and knowledge to assist my friends, as well.

So when one of my closest friends (and sister), Candace, told me that she wanted to start a fashion blog, I was totally for it.

She breathes the world of fashion and all that it entails. Her style is classy, yet trendy. She loves make-up, heels and pearls, but isn’t over the top.  Moreover, she gives great advice on the right looks to enhance anyone’s appearance.

Plus, she’s one of the most compassionate people I know. She is genuinely considerate of others’ feelings; she goes out of her way to ensure that everyone in her life is cared for and she strives to leave a positive impression with everyone she meets– she is pretty much the total opposite of me!

But seriously, she is beautiful inside and out. Sure, there are a lot of people who can stay up on trends, but not too many who can speak on glamour with humbleness and sincerity. So I definitely thought the fashion blogosphere needed her voice.

But still, Candace was still a little apprehensive.

What I have learned in passionately pursing my dreams is that it is a lot easier to convince yourself that you are not ready than to dive head first, ready or not. Many people don’t think they’re educated or experienced enough. Some are waiting for support or approval from their friends, family or colleagues.  Others don’t think they have the adequate resources to produce at their highest potential.

While I think planning is vital to the success of any endeavor, sometimes you just have to stop making excuses and take that leap of faith.  If you are truly passionate about something, why limit yourself based on things that will come.  We are forever growing and developing.  Perfection may never be attainable but progression is always staring us in the face. We must stop subconsciously being our own worst enemies by planting seeds of defeat in our heads before we even get started.

Like the saying goes, “it is better to have tried and failed, than to not have tried at all.”

Fortunately, Candace was able to overcome her personal hurdles and launch her amazingly awesome fashion blog (www.cardigansandpearls.com).  She’s received overwhelming feedback for her work and continues to inform the stylishly impaired with new practical tools, guidance and advice to enhance their outer being.

People are often their biggest critic; therefore, they feel that they are inadequate. I think at some point everyone feels they need someone to encourage them to "leap" out there. I am thankful to be surrounded around great people that directly encourages me, or indirectly encourages me through actions of pursuing of their ambitions/dreams.
