In life, we all have passions and talents, but what are we lead by? Are we led by the pursuit of money? Are we led by who others want us to be? Are we lead by a societal standard of success? Are we led by someone else’s dream given to us as a child? Living life with success isn’t simply about doing what is considered the “hot” job, or following some career standard, or adopting a traditional pathway; it is about being you. Ask yourself this question, what do I want to do in life? The answer may be in accordance to a standard, a tradition, someone else’s thoughts, or something totally different. The point is that you connect yourself to work that you truly love. It may be writing poetry, making a tight beat, creating lyrics, dancing to a cool rhythm, taking photos, etc. Whatever it is that you love, you will find yourself really good at it and enjoying it at the same time. This is what I call the intertwinement of talent and passion. Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard said, “The lesson I learned… [in] life was, love what you do, or don’t do it all.” Why, because you won’t reach hearts fulfillment by becoming a slave to a love not of your own.[1] The irony in life is that we often think we will be more successful in doing something we don’t love than in doing something that we do love. Be courageous today and take the risk of pursuing your ambitions; you might just be surprised on your Return on Investment.
