Forever Young: On Missing School and Being A Grown-Up

Sometimes, I really miss college (but then I look at my paycheck :-P )

Reminiscing about college with a friend, I became nostalgic about being an undergraduate student (which was only three years ago), and began to ponder my next step in life...

I miss going to school...
I miss the challenge. I miss the dialog, the explorationdiscussing ideas.

So much rides on the outcome of college, but I wish it didn't; I'd stay there forever, just because I like school.

I didn't have the typical college life, so this isn't nostalgia for partying, drinking, or debauchery. I genuinely miss talking about interesting things with interesting people.

And now I'm a grown-up
Being grown up isn't as bad as I imagined it would be as a child.

Folks act like having multiple personalities is a bad thing, but it comes in handy when you want to comment on a duplicate posting (here and on your blog). So having commented on your blog, my other personality is chiming in here to say: you are doing exactly what it is you say you miss - talking about interesting things with interesting people. School is of course but one venue to do that. Now, you can join Meet-up groups (along the lines of what someone suggested on your blog page), and start your own circles around interests that provide for the same result - knowledge sharing with like minds, etc. It's my hope that Skillology can grow in this area and offer more opportunities for folks to tap into that nostalgia gained while in school - not just online, but offline as well. Keep at it son. And for anyone who took me serious about the multiple personality thing, well... yes, I am crazy. Wheeeee..! lol. Peace.

I loved undergrad and I can definitely feel where you're coming from but there are seasons for everything and you never know what's in store for you next!

Tell me about it! But life's mysteries don't reveal themselves while you're in school. School just teaches you how to look, it's up to you to get out in the world and actually explore. Next chapter must be written, not just read.
