How to Blog: Blogging Tips for Beginners

Have you thought about starting a blog? If so, you're in luck.  My friend Susan Harris, a published writer, professional blogger, garden coach, and budding filmmaker (see the film we co-directed last year) wrote an excellent article on blogging basics. She covers how to start a blog, how to increase traffic to your blog, and how to make money from blogging. I had it on my to-do to write a blogging basics guide myself, but she beat me to it, and covers the basics succintly. Highly recommended read for blogging Skillologists.

So if you want to blog as a personal journal for people who already know you, just go for it.  But if you’re considering blogging about a specific topic, start by reviewing the prominent blogs on that topic.  That’ll help you decide not only if you want a blog but what features you might want to include in your own blog – or not.  You can find these blogs by putting “music blogs” into Google, substituting your topic for “music”.
