3 Tips to Overcome Creative Block and Make Progress
It’s time to start moving forward. I know it’s been a while since you have even had the motivation to do so when it comes to some of your goals, but you can get the movement going again. Where should you start? Well, check out the tips below to get on track with making your dreams progress.
1) Stop looking back if it’s detrimental to moving forward
We all have a story. There are elements of all of our lives that have made us who we are today. I don’t believe that looking back is always a bad thing. Looking back at what you’ve overcome or how far you have come is a good thing if you can use it to empower yourself. If dwelling on the past brings you to a place of regret, self-hatred, or decrease in confidence, simply stop looking back. Instead, look forward towards greatness and the possibilities of what could be.
2) Have a plan
Designate a time slot on a specific quickly approaching date when you can create an action plan to move you towards progress. Work backwards. My colleague and fellow Skillologist, Christina Sturdivant is an advocate of choosing a small number of long-term goals (to be accomplished in a year or more) with deadlines and filling in the short-term goals (daily, weekly, or monthly goals) needed to be accomplished in order to work towards those long-term goals. If you have a plan and know how to execute it, it will be less likely that you ever feel as if you do not know where to start when it comes to moving forward and achieving your goals.
3) Find a place of peace and productivity
What is the place that makes you feel both at peace and productive at the same time? Some of us have a place we can go where work seems to flow. It might be the outdoors, a friend’s house, the library, or a restaurant. As someone who is quite spiritually motivated, I have sat in the pews of my favorite church and created ideas that have changed lives and empowered communities. Figure out where that place of peace and productivity is for you, and move your dreams forward.
Progress is a state of mind. It does not happen so easily when we’re not taking the steps necessary to make it happen or when we’re not prepared to embrace it.
Embrace progress. Stop looking back, have a plan, and find a place of peace and productivity to work towards making your dreams come true. Once you decide to make your dreams happen, things can more easily fall into place. Start with the three steps above, and await the coming to the fruition of your dreams. It’s time to start moving forward, Skillologist.
